About the Festival

Here’s the short version . . .

In 1997, Founder/Director Ron Tibbett was searching for more festivals to enter his award-winning film, “Swept Off My Feet.” When he came to the “M’s,” Ron noticed Mississippi had no such festival.

So he created one.

Over two dozen independent films will be shown, both short and full-length, with a well-known independent feature film to be screened as the final film on Saturday evening. (In 1999, we screened Bill Condon’s “Gods and Monsters” and in 2000, we screened Tom Tykwer’s “Run Lola Run.”) There will also be Q&A; forums with visiting filmmakers between screenings. (Last year 12 directors from across North America attended.)

Six cash prizes plus “Mags” will be awarded immediately following the last film: three Grand Jury Awards, The Audience Award, The Elena Zastawnik Memorial Award for Best Written Film, and The Festival Director’s Award. A post-fest party will be held.
